Senior Tax Assistance Grant Program

Property Tax Deferral Program
Richmond Hill offers a property tax deferral program for seniors and people with disabilities. This program delays eligible tax increases, without added interest rates, until your property is transferred or sold. The program is offered to:
- Low Income Seniors
- Seniors
- Low Income Disabled Persons
Low Income Seniors Deferral Program
We consider tax increases more than $100 for this program. To qualify:
- You must be between the ages of 55 and 64
- Your property must be owned by you or your spouse as at January 1st of the application year
- Your property must be your main residence
- You must have a single family income of less than $23,000 or a family income of less than $40,000
Seniors' Deferral Program
We consider difference between your current and last year's taxes for this program. To qualify:
- You must be 65 years of age of older
- Your property must be owned by you or your spouse as at January 1st of the application year
- Your property must be your main residence
Low Income Disabled Persons Deferral Program
We consider differences between your current and last year's taxes for this program. To qualify:
- You must be receiving benefits from the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) or the Guaranteed Annual Income System (GAINS)
- Your property must be owned by you or your spouse as at January 1st of the application year
- Your property must be your main residence
- You must have a single family income of less than $23,000 or a family income of less than $40,000
How to apply
You must submit a form each year by September 30.
You can fill out a Property Tax Deferral for Low-Income Seniors or Disabled Persons application if you qualify for any of these programs.

Ontario Senior Homeowner's Property Tax Grant
You may also qualify for this grant (of up to $500) if you are a senior homeowner with a lower income. Find out more about this grant on the Ministry of Finance website or call them at 1-866-668-8297 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
